Guide yourself through the Depot with audio summaries accessible on smart phones and tablets. Monday-Friday, 10 am – 12 Noon, during regular Depot and Museum hours.

Research Library
Research Railroad & Military History at the Depot
The Restored BN Depot & World War II Museum has an extensive library of railroad and military history, excellent for history enthusiasts interested in life-long learning or researching topics for books and other projects.
Use of the railroad history and military history research library and reading room: Monday-Friday,
10 AM – 12 Noon, during regular museum hours
Private use of the research library: Available any time, any day – including holidays and weekends – with advance notice and reservation.

Event Venue
Rent the Depot for Your Next Event
More than a Museum…It’s the hottest – and most affordable – event space going! In case you didn’t know, the beautiful Restored Burlington Northern Depot and World War II Museum in Red Oak, IA, is available to rent for community and private events – business meetings, reunions, receptions, showers, luncheons and more!
The Depot space offers:
- Depot’s main lobby, which easily seats 50+ at tables or 75 auditorium style.
- The renovated lunchroom has a great kitchen with oven, microwave and refrigerator. Us of the kitchen is included in the rental fee. Self-catered and potluck food service is permitted. BYOB beverage service.
- Separate theater with theater seating and big screen TV for showing videos or keeping the kids busy watching movies or cable TV.
- Ample on-campus and street parking (with expanded parking planned).
- If you are a train fan, one or two trains may pass - right next to the depot - during your event!
- Museum volunteers set up the tables and chairs so they are ready for you and your guests to arrive. You may decorate the venue as you wish.
- Rental fee: $125 plus $50 deposit which is refunded if the venue is left as clean and neat as it was at the start of your event
